US President Donald Trump will participate in the NATO summit at the end of June in the Netherlands, White House spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, announced in Washington on Tuesday.
Until now, Trump had not confirmed his attendance at the meeting. There had been speculation that he might avoid the summit due to disagreements within the military alliance over higher defence spending by member states, which would have been an escalation in relations between NATO and the United States, which plays an essential role in the alliance.
On June 24 and 25, the leaders of the military alliance are due to meet in The Hague and discuss their defence spending.
