Taking mRNA COVID-19 booster shots worsens diabetes in prediabetic and diabetic individuals, according to a new study which found that the jab “impairs glucose control.”
The preprint study, posted on MedRxiv on Jan. 2, examined how COVID-19 vaccination affected diabetes. The study recruited 155 adults between June 1, 2023, and Oct. 31, 2023, who had taken two doses of Pfizer’s mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. Researchers found there were “exacerbated risks of glucose intolerance and insulin resistance” among prediabetic and diabetic subjects after they received booster shots. There was “significant elevation” in these subjects for two diabetes tests: HbA1c and HOMA-IR.
Triglycerides, a fat lipid in the blood that increases risk of heart disease at high levels, were found to be elevated. The triglyceride-glucose index (TyG), a tool to identify the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease, was also high.
