John McCain's son was vocal about his disdain for Donald Trump's attendance at the memorial for fallen soldiers held at Arlington National Cemetery. Jimmy McCain, the youngest son of the late senator who ran for president in 2000 and again against Barack Obama in 2008, told CNN that he changed his political affiliation from independent to Democrat and that Trump's presence at the wreath laying was "a violation." His father, however, included images of himself walking through the soldiers' cemetery in 1999 in a campaign ad.
There was strong backlash against McCain at the time, to such an extent that he was forced to remove the footage of himself at the cemetery from his campaign ad. Collin Rugg had the receipts, referencing back to an LA Times headline from 1999 that read "McCain to Remove Arlington Footage From Campaign Ad."
